1. Is Omicron a variant of COVID-19?
The emergence of Omicron On November 24, 2021, a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, B.1.1.529, was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO). This new variant was first detected in specimens collected on November 11, 2021, in Botswana and on November 14, 2021, in South Africa.
The mutation sites of the Omicron (B1.1.529) mutant strains were mainly in the ORF1a, ORF1b, and Spike (S) protein.
The nucleocapsid (N) protein of COVID -19 is a kind of complex protein composed of proteins and nucleic acids. It is highly conserved biologically. As the conservative amino acid sequence of the COVID -19 virus, it barely mutates.
The COVID-19 Antigen Microfluidic Chip and COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Cassette by NewScen are based on the principle of the double-antibody sandwich technique. It is for the detection of the COVID-19 antigen in human throat swab or nasal swab samples by the labeled N protein antibody, and then captures the immune complex by the coated N protein antibody. The principle of the reagent is to detect the COVID-19 antigen via N protein, which is the core protein with amino acid sequence keeping highly conservative inside COVID-19 virus, so the mutant strain will not affect the positive detection rate of the NewScen COVID-19 antigen test kits.
It has been taken into consideration of the COVID-19 virus mutation early in the research and development stage of NewScen COVID-19 antigen test kits, which guaranteed the antigen reagents to identify the COVID-19 virus mutation.
